The Month of November at home usually is the dreariest month of the year. It's dark before you got your supper and it's still dark when you eat your breakfast. In between days are dull and grey and many people feel depressed.
Add to that in the toe-freezing, teeth-shattering cold, and it makes many northerners choose a winter stay in warmer areas.
Naturally, that exactly, is also our reason why we stay south from November to March/April. But when the weather down south turns out its ugly face with bone-chilling storms from the north, rain and strong crosswinds, we realize that we may have made a mistake.
When raindrops kept drumming up a beat on our RV-roof this morning, it was time to make a decision. Staying in place would mean cold weather and continuing strong winds, so we decided to pull the plug on staying around on Magnolia Beach. We got the rig ready, partly in pouring rain, hitched it on and off we went.
A dreary morning starting the drive west
"Go West Cowboy" they say, so we followed the trail towards the Mexican border.
A shine of hope ahead of us
We chose a route a bit inland and away from the coast, and it paid off as the rain stopped. We didn't have much wind either.
And suddenly a blue sky and sunshine!
And now it's time to reveal our final winter destination: After 5.5hrs we arrived at the Falcon County Park, not far from Falcon Lake and the Falcon Lake State Park.
The area of this camp is quite large and it comes with a number of perks:
1. it's free!
2. it has water spigots
3. it has a shower house
4. it has a dumping station
5. It has garbage pickup
6. very few campers here
7. it's not far from the next town
8. the weather is nice and warm!!
9. you stay as long as you want
I will, of course, elaborate a little more about this place tomorrow.
Since I am hung up in Decatur Al with medical troubles this year, I was not there to greet you. I spend a lot of time at Falcon Heights. It has been a destination for me for over forty years. I will enjoy seeing the pictures of the area. Thank you.
