Somehow, both of us woke up at 5am. Guess that's the "punishment" for going to bed too early. Yet, knowing that we would have only 3 hours to Magnolia Beach, we were dragging our feet this morning.
Finally, we got back on the I-10 heading towards the southern ring road around Houston. We then left the Interstate system altogether and went south-west on US-35 which brought us to Port Lavaca. From there we knew the road out to Magnolia Beach.
We set up camp and enjoyed the peace of being 50ft from the edge of the Matagorda Bay. Day users appeared, some taking a dip in the bay. Btw. the water here has an inviting 24C (75F) and of course muggins here, had to get his feet in the water.
Dixie dug herself a little hole in the shell sand beach so her bum could stay cool. She is just so practical and smart!
Thus the afternoon was flying by. Unfortunately, the weather forecast mentioned a storm coming up between 5 and 6pm. I was just on a walk with Dixie when all hell broke lose.
The storm hit us from the North and within minutes huge waves were crashing ashore where just 30 minutes earlier we'd been enjoying the view. Wow, Dixie and I were now running home and I felt sharp shell debris hitting me in my face and my legs. We rushed into the trailer and were watching the scary waves rolling up the beach. Luckily the storm was blowing out of the bay and not opposite. It got dark so fast, which just made the situation even more scary. The tide will rise until 10:30pm. So we gotta watch the situation. Even though this is a bit scary we are still thankful that we didn't get into the storm while driving or being at a place even more exposed to the elements.
You're making good progress. Snow forecast here for Thursday
ReplyDeleteI hate it when high tide comes after dark.
