A trip to the ER
Over the last coupla days Bea had complained about shortness of breath, and yesterday evening it got worse. The symptoms she had, were those of a heart attack. So we got busy with calling our insurance company, preparing for a claim.
We had to go over dark dusty desert roads to get out of the BLM-camp and reached the Emergency Room of the El Centro Regional Hospital about 40 minutes later.

Over the course of the next hours Bea got checked and cross-checked. After 4 1/2hrs of doing tests she was released with the message that the tests hadn't shown anything wrong with her.

We had first anticipated that the dust in the area would be the culprit, but that didn't seem to be the case. We are still at a loss as to what went wrong.

Had this been a real cardiac arrest case we would not have made it to the hospital in time. The unfortunate situation with the closed bridge has given us a disadvantage which could turn out deadly in live-or-death emergency.

I am not in the mood to elaborate any further, just wanted to let this message leave my laptop.

  1. I am pleased that there was no heart attack. I hope you can find the reason for the emergency. This goes to point out that each time we settle in a place, we need an emergency plan. Better safe than sorry.

  3. Glad to hear Bea is doing better and that it wasn't a heart attack, but as Nan stated it is always wise to have a backup plan.

Another thing is that you yourself must remain calm and think with a clear head as you might be the one saving her life. If you get too worked up it could be you with the heart attack leaving Bea unable to help.

Both of you thinking with a clear head at this time will benefit you down the road.

    It's about time.

  5. Have the symptoms gone away completely ? And are you thinking about moving to another location ? I certainly would not want to be anywhere that I couldn't get to emergency help FAST.

  7. Oh Bea, how scary for you guys. I am so glad they didn't find any heart attack issues. But not being able to breath is not a good thing. Asthma, maybe? Be sure to let us know how you guys are.

  8. Thanks guys for all you kind comments. Bea has shown anxiety issues sometimes. When being up at Joshua Tree Park she thought it was the elevation. If she THINKS that it furthers the anxiety. She had a little moment today as well, but kept telling herself that it should stop and it did stop. Besides heart attack they ruled out blood clot in the lungs, cancer and asthma.

  9. I'm so glad everything turned out and it wasn't anything very serious. That can really be a scary thing. Having that road closed makes one realize just how far you are from help if you need it. Be safe and keep us posted. We enjoyed our time with both of you so much.
