Happy Independence Day AMERICA!

It is time for America’s National Day and fireworks are going off all around Campobello. Yes, it sounds like WWIII has started. Over at Eastport they have a grand party and music is looming across Passamaquoddy Bay. Normally Molly hates all fireworks, but yesterday evening she slept through the entire banging.
A U.S.-navy vessel was supposed to visit Eastport, but the ship never came.

Over here on the Canadian side we have hung the U.S. flag from our porch and she is in company with Canada and New Brunswick.

Paradise In July

The beauty with our weather is that IF we get rain it’s lasting maybe a day or two, but then the sun is there again and makes this place, this island a true paradise. Today was such a day. After a little puttering around at a neighbour’s place, I ran an errand across the border to get rid of cans and bottles at a redemption place. Got some dog food and some food for us and was back home right around noon.

A slight breeze was making sure it didn’t get too hot and one could feel the amazing peace in the air. Again I can’t but compare this place to the huzzle-buzzle of Edmonton. Here we can be humans, we can help our neighbours, and we can have a happy dog, sniffing around the buildings without running the danger of finding something poisonous.

The evenings are even more quiet and the sun is bathing everything in a golden light.

This IS paradise in July for us.

The Big Show Is Over And NO RAIN!

The entire Campobello population has been watching the weather developments all day long.

The fog lifted off after a few hours but a grey cloud cover remained. During the afternoon there was a 80-100% chance of rain starting at 7pm ADT.
1-DSC_0566After only a few droplets rain was over at 6pm and the skies had lightened up considerably when the Canada Day Parade went along without any rain at all.

Lots of people had lined up along the route and we participants in the parade made sure of a lot of noise with car horns and high music. The Fire Departments of Lubec,ME and Campobello made out the start of the parade.

After the parade there was free cake and ice cream for everybody.

We did visit a neighbour in their garden and Bea took a few really nice shots of summer flowers.

Oh, Oh It’s Canada Day!

Why is it that we are shrouded in thick fog on Canada Day? Why can’t we have the blessing of a sunny day when there have been many sunny days before? I am hanging out the flag but it hangs straight down like it is sad to be out in this dull weather.

And, believing the weather men, it’s gonna get worse towards the evening. What about the “Little People’s Parade with their fancy little carts and wagons? What about the picnic in the Provincial Park?
Our local Canada Day Committee is always striving to make the best arrangements, but nobody can change the weather. With fog and later rain there won’t be any fireworks to see either.

Well, we have to make the best of it. It could be worse like I remember Norway’s National day on May 17. Oftentimes we had snow showers coming down on the parade.  Brrr…..
