We have been packing up the trailer for two days and we are still not done. Since the trailer is parked on the American side of the border we have to cross over there with every load. Both days have been very cold, though the sunshine helped to make temps livable. Inner parts of Maine have had –29C which really is extremely cold. Thursday will be the day we hit the road. Once we are on I-95 South we will follow it even through New York City. By-passing the Big Apple is not recommended this time of the year as we would have to get into higher elevation and farther from the coast, which could result in worse road conditions. Next big struggle will be passing Philadelphia,PA, then Baltimore,MD and Washington DC. After that we will have a clear go until Richmond VA, which shouldn’t be too bad. We calculate 4 days to reach Freeport,FL where we will stay with a “Boondockers Welcome” couple, Sherry and Pete. We wrote about their visit with us this summer and you can read about it here. Northern Florida is certainly not the warmest spot in the continental USA, but it sure beats sitting out one snow storm after the other. Yeah, Sunday we are supposed to get 18 inches on top of what we already have. It seems to be a crazy winter. Even tonight it’s supposed to start snowing again, hopefully not more than 4 inches. Our boondocking spot will be right on the water and I just hope they have no gators hanging around the area. Later, we might take a trip farther south into the St.Petersburg area but that’s not set in stone yet. We will be close to the Alabama area and might be doing some exploring into the State. With so many new things to see, I think that our time (3-4months) will be flying by very fast. Anyway, if you keep reading the blog you will find out. Happy Wednesday and thanks for stopping by! |

I wondered where you were keeping the trailer. Getting off the island for the next few months is a pretty good plan. Of course, there are those who do stay there, but they're welcome to it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you didn't give up on your travel plans for this year. If you are staying in Florida this year we might even get a chance to meet. Nine more sleeps for us. Be Safe and Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt's about time.
Sure glad you're going to head south for a few months. And I agree northern Florida is way too cold but it sure doesn't get the snow. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteYeaaaaa - you're heading south! I'm glad you are going to be able to head out for a vacation. Wish you were coming to Arizona - maybe next year. Florida is the warmest state right now, right?, but I think that might be further south. Anyway, travel safe, and enjoy your drive. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also thrilled to know that you won't have to endure all that COLD over the next months. But the South WEST will miss you !!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I envy you for being able to take your RV from home and in a matter of days be in the "hot" spot for the winter,no such a thing can be done in Israel,we can not drive out of the country as we are surrounded by countries that will not allow us a passage-so the only way out is by plane...
ReplyDeleteHave a great winter and we will be joining in June.
Travel safe. You're right about the panhandle being a little cool, but there shouldn't be any snow. We're near Tampa and we've had a cool spell for a few days, but warming up again.
ReplyDeleteWe did the area last year and missed you at the hot springs. Enjoy it along the coast. This year we will do the hot springs without you.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Florida adventure. It'll be a lot different than your normal Holtville adventure for sure.
ReplyDeleteWe live just west of Fort Walton Beach and I have managed to stay in shorts most of the time the last last few months. Highs today were in the upper 60's:)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see that you decided to head south out of the cold. Enjoy.
