A Valentine's Day Party!
That is a very good reason to have a party!
Last night there were gusts up to 40 m/h (64 km/h) and I was afraid that this would truncate the party. The morning the wind still was on the breezy side, and a cloud cover was moving in around noon. But nothing could stop us from having fun!
Many turned out to party.
Lots and lots of sweet stuff

Good music!
Lots of Fun! (There were more dancing once I stopped taking photos :))
My contribution was a cake I read about in a novel of Jan Karon. (Quote from the book named:  A Light in the Window "Esther Bolick's legendary cake..." " Her splendid orange marmalade cake was famed among all the local churches.")
The descriptions sounded so tempting, that I had to look it up on the internet.

Esther's Orange-Marmalade Layer Cake (for the recipe)

I had to make some minor adjustments but it turned out very well. Of course way too rich!
My version of Esther's Orange-Marmalade Layer Cake

I hope you liked it too!

And two more days to go....

  1. That cake looks incredible but definitely not on a diabetic's diet. I hope the next two days fly by for you.

    1. The best thing for me is to do "house" cleaning. That always helps to get time going. :))

  2. Yummy is right. The wind sure ripped through Yuma last night too. Hopefully, it'll move on fast and get out of here.

    1. Nope, still blowing hard here. And there will be coming 6 inch of snow down to 3000 feet in the San Diego Mountains tonight. I hope the system moves on and I have better driving conditions for tomorrow night.

  3. The cake looks great. I looked at the recipe but the link for your adjustments didn't seem to be working. I'm wondering if you found a way to use a little less sugar.

    1. Ha, you got me there. I made the adjustments in my cook book, but not on my blog.
Originally I wanted to copy the whole recipe/directions from the source into the blog, but decided then to just leave the link there. Off course that leads you to the original recipe and doesn't have the adjustments. But I can tell you that I didn't do changes to the ingredients. I just made one cake instead of 2 single layers, I used 2 1/2 cups flour + 1/2 cup cornstarch and I had to take orange juice out of a box instead of fresh squeezed one.
But I agree, it is way too much sugar in this cake. I ate a 1 inch slice and I couldn't have eaten more, though it tasted really great. Just too rich. Maybe I find a way to alter the whole.

  4. Looks like I'm not the only diabetic whose mouth was watering! That cake looks scrumpdillyisious" I really like Jan Karon and have read most of her books. It also looks like you had a really good turn out for your party. I hope the time goes fast for you til Peter returns.

    1. Yeah, most of the real good cakes are not healthy at all.
I will do some "house" cleaning, that helps to make time go by.
