Spring Is Not Springing And Winter Will Rear It’s Ugly Head Again.

It’s March 20 and the official beginning of Spring is right around the corner. But even though the sun is shining out of a bright blue sky the temps are way down below the freezing mark. But it’s gonna get worse tomorrow. Despite my sincere hopes and beliefs that we were done with winter, we are expected to deal with 4-8inch of snow tomorrow! Yes, you read that correctly. I mean snow is an ugly affair any time of the winter but most hated when it comes in March or even later. The other day Bea had discovered the first green of our crocus appearing through the hard crust of a winter-dry soil. They are all but gone today. Why? We are feeding birds and some of them did discover the delicious green of our crocus and used it as a dessert after all that grain they ate.

Starlings, grackles and red-winged blackbirds have invaded the feeding arena and the little chickadees, finches and other songbirds are just watching the noise and spectacle from the side-line.

Even our house squirrel does not dare to get in the midst of some 50 crackles.  We are watching this from the living room and every of our movements is registered outside and followed by an immediate flight of the entire group, just to return to the goodies a few seconds later.
It’s gonna be a bad day for all birds tomorrow when strong winds are blowing all that snow around.
